Shirley Marie Nunez Bueker, of Stuttgart, passed away in Hot Springs on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born in Abbeville, Louisiana, on August 24, 1936, to Tilman Andrew and Alfreda DeCuire Nunez.
In her high school years, her family moved to DeWitt, Arkansas, where she graduated from high school. She met Joe H. Bueker, Sr. at the World Championship Duck Calling Carnival in 1955 and they were married one year later. She was a proud farmer’s wife and a doting mother who raised three children and made each child feel as if they were her favorite. Friends always remarked to her children on their mother’s beauty. Shirley participated in being a room mother and Sunday school teacher at Lodge Corner United Methodist Church. She loved her 1955 DeWitt High School classmate get-togethers, her neighbors, and beauty shop friends. She enjoyed trivia games, traveling with friends and her husband and shopping. She was the best cook, whether it was her native Cajun foods or her family’s southern favorites.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Freda and Judy Nunez, her husband of 54 years, Joe H. Bueker, Sr., her grandson Hart Sanders, and a step-grandson, Justin Wisener.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Karyn and Neil Wisener of Hot Springs, Patti and Sandy Sanders of Branson, Missouri, and her son and his wife, Hank and Jamie Bueker of Stuttgart; grandchildren, Drew (Jen) Sosebee, Larkin Sanders (Taylor Block), Shelby (Sam) Patterson, and Sydney Bueker; a great-granddaughter, Katherine Patterson; step-grandsons, Jordan and Jarrod Wisener; seven step-great grandchildren; her sister, Lillie Fuhrman; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins of the Bueker, Decuire, and Nunez families.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to physicians and medical caregivers who have cared for her and helped give us all these years with her and the Arkansas Hospice team and CHI St. Vincent’s in Hot Springs for their comforting care in her final days.
A visitation will be Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 2-3 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart with a private family burial at Lone Tree Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
