Norma Louise Simpson Harvill, born March 21, 1932, peacefully passed away on January 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by faith, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to family and community.
Norma was united in marriage to the love of her life, Horace Henry Harvill Jr., on July 6, 1948. Together they shared 32 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons, Kevin Lee Harvill and John David Harvill. In April of 1981, Norma endured one of the most difficult seasons of her life with the loss of her husband, leaving her to raise two young sons on her own. Through grief and hardship, she stepped forward with remarkable strength and determination, committing herself fully to her family and preserving the legacy they had built together.
Norma’s life was rooted in love — love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She was especially devoted to caring for her son Kevin at home, a role she carried out with quiet strength and deep compassion.
A faithful and dedicated member of Humphrey Baptist Church, Norma gave generously of her time, talents, and resources. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and supported the church in countless ways, including contributing financially to the construction of the new church completed in 1987. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church walls. She worked tirelessly to improve Flynn Cemetery, serving on its board, and remained actively involved in her community throughout her life.
No baby, wedding, or special milestone went unnoticed by Norma. She had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Alongside her dear friends Barbara Brown, Annie Wilson, Polly Dabbs, Louise Vanlandingham, Jackie Ryan, and Betty Buerkle, she made it a mission to surround young couples and growing families with care, support, and celebration.
Norma was also a member of WIFE (Women in Farming and Entrepreneurship). She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, and deep compassion for others. Her presence left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Laura Louise Simpson; her husband, Horace Henry Harvill Jr.; her son, Kevin Harvill; her sisters, Ruth Adkins, Hannah Dell Moore, Annie Jean Henderson, and Laverne Halburg; her brother, Lyman Edward Simpson; and her great-grandchildren, Aidan and Jager Barnes.
She is survived by her son, John Harvill and wife Susan of Humphrey; her brother, Carl David Simpson (Carolyn) of Stuttgart; her sisters, Murial Farrell of Sacramento, California, and Kathlynn Johnson of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Tonya Barnes (Jason), Dustin Bayless, John Harvill Jr. (Mary Ellen), and Andrew Harvill (Natalie); great-grandchildren, Olivia (Hayden) Cole, Izzy and Gabby Barnes, Tyler, Layne, and Evie Bayless, Hudson Harvill, and Rylee Harvill; and one great-great-grandson, Basil Cole.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, at Turpin Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Flynn Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to Flynn Cemetery, P.O. Box 153, Humnoke, Arkansas 72072.
