Norma Louise Simpson Harvill

On January 14, 2026, Norma Louise Simpson Harvill, born March 21, 1932, passed away Jan. gently left this earth leaving behind a lifetime of love, memories, and family who will forever cherish her. She was married to the love of her life, Horace Henry Harvill Jr, July 6, 1948. They had 32 wonderful years together on this earth and were blessed with two sons, Kevin Lee Harvill and John David Harvill.

In April of 1981, during one of the most tragic periods of her life, she lost her husband and was left to raise two young sons. With everything seemingly against her, she stepped forward, took the reins, and committed herself to preserving her family’s legacy. She accomplished what few could under such hardship—enduring, persevering, and never giving up. She remained strong in an industry that has taken its toll on many, all while caring for her son, Kevin, at home. Through it all, her life was deeply rooted in love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

She was a devoted member of Humphrey Baptist Church, giving tirelessly of her time and resources. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She supported the church in every way she could, including financially contributing to the construction of the new church completed in 1987. She also worked diligently to improve the Flynn Cemetery and remained actively involved in her community. No baby, wedding, or special moment went uncelebrated—she made everyone feel seen, valued, and deeply important. Alongside her dear friends Barbara Brown, Annie Wilson, Polly Dabbs, Louise Vanlandingham, Jackie Ryan, and Betty Buerkle, they made it their mission to ensure young couples and growing families were surrounded with love, support, and joy.

She was on the Board at Flynn Cemetery, and a member of WIFE, Women in Farming and Entrepreneurship. She will be remembered for her strength, love, caring, and compassion for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Laura Louise Simpson; her husband, Horace Henry Harvill Jr.; son, Kevin Harvill; sisters, Ruth Adkins, Hannah Dell Moore, Annie Jean Henderson and Laverne Halburg; brother, Lyman Edward Simpson; and great-grandchildren, Aidan and Jager Barnes.

Survivors are her son, John Harvill and wife Susan of Humphrey; brother, Carl David Simpson (Carolyn) of Stuttgart; sisters, Murial Farrell of Sacramento, Calif., and Kathlynn Johnsons of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Tonya Barnes (Jason), Dustin Bayless, John Harvill Jr. (Mary Ellen) and Andrew Harvill (Natalie); great-grandchildren, Olivia (Hayden) Cole, Izzy and Gabby Barnes, Tyler, Layne and Evie Bayless, Hudson Harvill, and Rylee Harvill; and one great-great-grandson, Basil Cole.
