Lynn Laster Wood, 78, of Stuttgart went to dance with Jesus on February 2, 2024, after a long fight against Interstitial Lung Disease. When they gave her six months, she battled on for three more years.
She was born on May 7, 1945, in Little Rock, AR. She attended Centennial Elementary, Westside Junior High, and Little Rock Central High School. She earned her BSE and MSE from Arkansas State University. She began her teaching career in 1971 as a special education teacher at Jonesboro High School. She moved to Stuttgart and continued teaching/supervising special education until her retirement in 2004.
While in Stuttgart, Lynn met and married the love of her life, David H. Wood. Together they had three children, Kyle, Amy, and Matt. She was eventually promoted to the beloved title of Nana. She was Nana to four grandchildren, Taylor, Kaylee, Spencer, and Evan, and two grand-dogs, Remington and Jett. With grandkids being born, she went back to driving a mini van so she had plenty of room for everyone to ride with her. It was appropriately titled and labeled the “Nanamobile”. Nana could be found driving all around hauling grandkids to school, church, doctors, events, and on vacations. She had a generous heart for animals and supported many rescues. Her rescued dog babies, Bella and Annie, could be routinely seen riding in the Nanamobile on outings.
Lynn was an active member of First Baptist Stuttgart, where she taught Sunday school, played handbells, volunteered for Vacation Bible School, and sewed quilts with the FBC Quilters. She was a docent for the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie. She enjoyed taking family photos and posting all her adventures online. She was an avid Southern cook, who strongly believed you couldn’t make good tasting green beans without bacon grease. She baked goodies for all occasions…and sometimes for no occasion at all. If you went on a school trip, to camp, or on vacation, you would get sent off with a snack pack. If you were family, you got a themed cake every year on your birthday, including the dogs. She had a strong love for chocolate. If you made the mistake of telling her you liked a chocolate candy, you would get no less than 5 lbs. of that candy at every occasion. She enjoyed sharing her time with older people in town that had no close family. She loved sending “snail mail” to her friends and family with coordinated themed stamps. She embodied the sentiment of showing love to others while they were still here on Earth. It is quite the legacy.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Marion Mork; her father, Cliff Mork; her precious dogs and grand-dogs; and a host of sweet friends that we know were lined up at the gates of heaven ready to celebrate her arrival. She is survived by her husband, David H. Wood; her children, Kyle (Simone) Wood of Hot Springs, AR, Amy (Michael) Smith of Stuttgart, AR, and Matt Wood of Fayetteville, AR; and her grandchildren, Taylor Wood, Kaylee Watson, Spencer Wood, and Evan Watson.
A celebration of life for Lynn/Nana will be at 10:30 a.m. Satuday, April 13, at First Baptist Church in Stuttgart.
In honor of her, memorials can be made to the music department of First Baptist Church Stuttgart or the Stuttgart Animal Shelter.
