JW Green

J.W. Green, Jr. 88, went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2024. He was born in Oil Trough, AR, on March 27, 1936, to James Willard and Mary Josephene Green. He graduated from Oil Trough High School and attended and graduated from Arkansas State University in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He married Glindal Sue Benson on January 25, 1961. The couple moved to Stuttgart AR in 1964, where they lived until their deaths.

After college, J.W. began working as a field agent for the IRS and attended law school in Little Rock AR. He passed the Bar Exam in 1964 and practiced law in Stuttgart AR for 50 years, primarily with the Macom, Moorehead, Green and Henry Law Firm. During his career, he also served in several roles of public service, including Stuttgart School Board, Prosecuting Attorney, City Attorney, Municipal Judge and Mayor of Stuttgart AR.

J.W. was an active member of the community and an avid Stuttgart Ricebird and Arkansas State Booster. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stuttgart AR. His joys were his wife and family. His hobbies were fishing, especially for largemouth bass, and driving his old Ford Model T car in the Stuttgart Christmas parade. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people and telling stories, especially about growing up in Oil Trough AR. His secret indulgence was watching old western movies.

J.W. is preceded in death by his wife, Glindal Sue (Benson) Green. He is survived by two sons J. Bradley Green and Jeffery Garriott Green, his daughter-in-law Lisa Gayle Green and his sister and brother-in-law Betsy Jane Gore and Dr. Ronald Gore, DDS. He is further survived by five grandchildren: Sara Christine Green, Jacob Quenton Green, Jeffery Garrett Green Jr., Mary Grayson Green and William Payton Green. He is also survived by several cousins and nieces.
