Jimmy Dean Trice, 75, of Greenbrier, Arkansas, passed away on May 3, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jimmy was born on May 30, 1949, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to John and Irene McAlister Trice. He graduated from Stuttgart High School and attended both the University of Arkansas and the University of Central Arkansas. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Grand Canyon. Jimmy began his career at Producers Rice Mill, later becoming an insurance agent for Shelter Insurance, and retired from Riceland Foods in 2022.
Above all else, Jimmy loved his family. Every one of his children and grandchildren knew just how deeply they were cherished. He was famous for his encouraging “pep talks from Papa,” especially when life didn’t go as planned. He treasured having fun, valued lifelong friendships, and always welcomed a house full of kids—many of whom grew up playing basketball in the driveway with him. He made people feel important and truly seen.
Jimmy had a gift for storytelling, recalling even the smallest details from decades past. He loved the Razorbacks and absolutely didn’t love the Longhorns. He enjoyed fishing and tending a campfire—especially at Peckerwood Lake—and looked forward to his family’s annual beach trips. His wit was sharp, his humor quick, and his competitive spirit unmatched (especially in Trivial Pursuit). If there was a Razorback stat, from any sport or any year, Jimmy knew it by heart. He was kind and gentle, and he signed every text with “love, Papa” or “love, Dad.”
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gale Sommers Trice, and his son-in-law, Greg Morrison.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Nancy Floyd Trice; his brother, Terry Trice (Ruth Ann); and his children Shannon Boley (Bill), Ryan Scherm (Dawn), Jamie Ward (Steve), and Whitney Ward (Brad). He leaves behind a blended family of grandchildren who each brought their own unique joy to his life: Mary Kate Provost (Mason), Matthew Boley (Karlea), Jeremy Scherm, Layne Scherm (Dusty), Seth Scherm, Natalie Scherm, Caroline Ward, Trice Ward, Sarah (Jake) Blalock, Michael (Erika) Morrison, Nicole Thornton, and Courtney Tipple. He loved getting to meet his newest great-granddaughter, Lydia Scherm, and his face always lit up when Theo Morrison walked through the door.
Visitation will be held at Turpin Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8 at 1:00 p.m., with a celebration of life immediately following at 2:00 p.m.
The family asks that memorials be made to Havenwood, a program especially meaningful as it supports the work of his granddaughter, or to the Conway Regional Health Foundation.
Honorary pallbearers are Travis Trice, Jim McDaniel, Gary Wood, Mike Robinson, and Brent Warden.
