Glenna Joyce Shockley

Glenna Joyce Shockley, 91, of Stuttgart, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025. She was born on December 2, 1933, to Viola Browning, in the Bayou Meto area of Arkansas, to a family and community she loved deeply.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, P.A. Shockley, and her son, Larry Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Lovett (Hal); sisters Twila Johnston and Mamie Whitmore; grandchildren Barrett Jackson (Sydney), Rachael Ferraro (Chris), Farris Jackson (Laura), Josh Walker and Madison Walker (Laura); stepdaughter, Tammy Smith (Terry); stepson Dean Shockley (Julia) and step-grandson Zack Smith (Ashton); 15 great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews who brought her endless joy.

She came from humble beginnings but always had an incredible sense of style. With beautiful auburn hair and perfect skin, Joyce was often compared to Jackie-O and always dressed with class and elegance.

Joyce was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church in Stuttgart, where she seldom missed a service and taught Sunday School for many years. Her strong faith, gentle spirit, and quiet confidence guided her throughout her life and touched everyone who knew her.

For many years, Joyce owned and operated Joyce’s Beauty Shop in Stuttgart. Her chair was more than a place for a haircut, it was where stories were shared, laughter filled the room, and news traveled fast. Her clients adored her warmth and wit, and her children knew that if they got in trouble at school, Joyce would likely hear about it before they made it home.

Joyce loved cooking for her family and friends. She always had fresh cookies, cakes and pies on the counter and ready for anyone who stopped by to visit her. Her favorite way to spend time with family and friends was over a game of Pitch and she was a fiercely competitive player. In her downtime, she and P.A. worked on crossword puzzles, and it seemed that they always completed the puzzle before the next day’s paper arrived. She will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday, October 23, followed by her funeral service, officiated by Bro. Gregg Greenway, at 11 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bayou Meto Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to Southside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 424, Stuttgart, Arkansas 72160 or Bayou Meto Cemetery c/o Southern Bancorp Trust Dept, P.O. Box 511, Dewitt, Arkansas 72042.
