Edith Curton, 97, of Humphrey, widow of Thomas Alvin Curton, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at her home.
Mrs. Curton was born August 6, 1926, in England, Arkansas to Dave and Willie Noland Krisell. Edith was a teacher and educator in and out of the classroom. She started her teaching career in 1946 at Humphrey Public School. She later transferred to Stuttgart Public School, and finished her career at Holy Rosary Catholic School. She was a dedicated teacher for over 50 years, and impacted every student that had the privilege of being in her class. She loved being a teacher and valued every student. She did her job with excellence to ensure they had the best education. She was a pillar in the community and a role model for everyone. After she retired, she and her husband opened Crook Creek Antiques where their love for “junking” turned into a business. She loved to travel and play cards with her siblings. She was a longtime active member of Humphrey Baptist Church. Her favorite scripture was Jeremiah 29:11.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Curton; a daughter in law, Gail Curton; brother, Wilbourn Krisell; and four sisters, Maxine Curton, Betty Dabbs, Margaret Jackson, and Florence Camp.
Survivors are her son, Donnie Carroll Curton of Humphrey; grandchildren, Kalynn (Pat) Hill of Sherwood, Donna Burlison of Humphrey, Vonda Jo Curton of North Little Rock, Mary Boston of Stuttgart, Amy (Terry) Hopson of Pine Bluff, Jason Curton (Megan) of Fayetteville, Jeremy Curton of Humphrey and Megan Chastain (Adam) of Holly Grove; and great-grandchildren, Halley Hill, Gabrielle Stokes, Dylan Barnes, Brayden Boston, Ty Burlison, Kallie Hopson, Olivia, James, Huck and Margaret Chastain and Murry Curton; one brother, Walton Krisell (Ella Mae) of Stuttgart; and countless nieces and nephews.
Funeral service, officiated by Bro. Bobby McPherson, at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, at Humphrey Baptist Church with visitation being at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Flynn Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
