It is with deep love and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dean Hodges of Humphrey, who was born on May 25, 1934, and left us peacefully on November 20, 2025.
A devoted mother who was the cornerstone of our family, embodying strength, independence, and unconditional love. Her life was a testament to resilience and dedication. She was a mom who poured her heart into creating a warm, and loving home for her family, and a hardworking woman who spent many years working as a waitress, always putting her family’s needs above her own. She was a very giving person and always worried about her children and wanted the best for them. Her toughness and independence were legendary. She faced life's challenges head-on with unwavering courage If she had her mind set on something, there was no changing it.
Her love for her family was evident in every gesture, every word, and every sacrifice she made. She started each day with a cup of black coffee and a cigarette. If you came to her house, get ready to sit down and “inhale” a cigarette with her. (She would smoke enough for the both of you that made you feel like you were smoking.) She would always offer you something to eat or drink when you stopped by.
She learned how to navigate Facebook and loved to find out about something and then tell you all about it. She loved Wheel of Fortune, Steve Wilkos Show and Dateline. If you came by with any type of cut or scrap, get ready to be doctored with antibiotic cream. She loved the color red. There are so many good memories of her shopping and/or receiving a gift that were in “red”. Her excitement and expressions were priceless. She loved to cook and more importantly she loved to tell you how to cook.
Dean made it clear that her children were her greatest treasures. She raised a grandson, John Michael (Buddy), who was like her own son, holding a very special place in her heart, along with all of her family. She gave boundless unconditional love to those she cared for. She lived a long, meaningful life and left behind countless memories and words of wisdom that will continue to inspire us every day.
Dean is survived by her children, Margie Burks, Jerry Hodges (Debbie), Michael (Porky) Hodges (Traci), Mitzi London (Terry), Barry Hodges (Lisa), Mandy Hanson (Carlos) and John Michael Hodges (Steven); her brother, George (Dub) Clenney; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Dean was preceded in death by her parents, William Frank Clenney and Willie Minton Clenney; stepmom, Effie Louise Howell Clenney; eight brothers and one sister; husband, Joe Roy Hodges; sons, Gary and Ricky Hodges; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Hodges; son-in-law, Randy Burks; grandson, Teddy Sanders Jr.; and great-grandson, Gabe French.
