Dana James Shurtleff, 58, of Stuttgart, AR., passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023.
Dana was born April 14, 1964, in Northfolk, Va., to Howard Paul and Karen Shurfleff. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University and was a biological science technician at Agricultural Research Service in Stuttgart, AR. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served a church mission in West Virginia.
Dana was an avid outdoorsman, which began as a child exploring the hills and mountains of Maryland, Virginia, and Utah as a Boy Scout. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends, was an accomplished, award-winning quilter, a noted carpenter and craftsman and had a love of reading.
After working for the U.S. Geological Survey in California, Oregan, Washington and Montana, Dana began doing breeding and larval fish research for the USDA in Stuttgart, AR. His technical skills were instrumental in aiding fish farmers across the United States.
Survivors are his parents, Howard and Karen Shurfleff of Orem, Utah; siblings, Suzanna Pedersen (Chris) of Sunnyvale, CA, Chris Shurtleff (Daniele) and Diana Pritchett (Paul) of West Jordan, Utah, Liz Spalding of Orem, Utah, Aileen Harris of Orem, Utah, Dennis Shurtleff (Emily) of Provo, Utah, Holly Povar (Tripper) of Stuttgart, Germany, Ruthann Shurtleff (Todd) of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and Noel Peterson (Andy) of Orem, Utah; and close friend Emily Lasselle and kids of Portland, OR.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held.
