Avas Pauline Avants Carter, age 92, went to her heavenly home on March 12, 2023. Pauline was born in Biscoe, Arkansas on July 8, 1930 to Cary Andrew and Martha Angeline Moore Avants. Her entire life was devoted to caring for others. Upon her marriage on May 7, 1949 to E. S. (Sell) Carter, they took in his half brother and raised him as their son. They were always there for whoever was in need. From making scratch biscuits to homemade brownies to her famous chocolate gravy, no one went hungry. In her younger days, she was an accomplished seamstress making her girls dresses without the aid of a pattern and making matching dresses for their dolls.
Pauline was a devoted partner to any of Dad’s business venture. After his passing, she worked as a care giver, worked in the SHS school cafeteria, baby sat or anything else she could find. She moved to Stuttgart from Casscoe due to health reasons in 1998 and loved her little house. She enjoyed keeping her lawn neat and watching traffic go by.
Pauline was preceded in dead by her husband, E. S. (Sell) Carter, daughter Joyce Carter, son Roy Carter, grandson Derrick Crosson, her parents, and brothers, Osa Avants and Claster Avants. She is survived by her children, Joann (L.C.) West, Stuttgart, AR; Jan (Greg) Barnes, Round Rock, TX; and Janette Carter, Conway, AR. Grandchildren, Larry (Rebeka) West, Lonoke, AR, Shana (Mark) Hackney, Ulm, AR, Ashley Crosson, Round Rock, TX, Stacey Barnes, Austin, TX and William Barnes, Round Rock, TX. Great-grandchildren Josh and Tiffany Hackney, Ulm, AR, Gray (Breanna) West, Ocean Springs MS, Nicholas West, Foley, AL, Braxton and Layla Jessie, Austin, TX. and sisters, Jessie Elrod, Heber Springs, AR and Geneva Burdette, Corona, CA and special friends, Judy Carter, Donna Bednar and Betty Rice.
A special thank you to those who cared for her, Dr. Eddye Hord, Dr. Chris Morgan, Kiera and staff at Chambers Nursing Home and the ER staff at Springhill Baptist, especially David.
